Watamu Village Tour
Watamu Village Tour
Watamu in Swahili language “sweet people”. The meaning of the name is enclosed in this simple translation and with it the essence of this ancient fishing village that has less than 2000 inhabitants.
The excursion offers a visit to this sweet town through a walk through its streets to discover the life and habits of the locals, busy in all kinds of activities. We can discover the mosques, the shops that sell all kinds of merchandise, the well from which to draw water, the quinine plant in the Muslim cemetery, the cinema, the artisan shops, the port and, of course, the famous stalls along the busy Beach Road.
The latter is the most popular place as well as the one where the nightlife is concentrated, in particular at the Come Back Club, where an international and local clientele meets every evening for dinner and after dinner, when the DJs start playing the music until late at night.
Another almost obligatory stop for those who take the half day tour is to visit Timboni, a typical local village where you can observe many scenes of daily life of the locals and the characteristic mud houses located in the middle of palm groves, between chickens, cows and goats.
